This is how you do it.
Make a hooded cover for your lens - I did this with white paper since i had no black paper. Then cut out a small square of the top. On a different piece of square, cut out your favourite shape by yourself or using the punch out things. Then stick it on, make sure your camera focus is on manual as you have to unfocus on the light before you put the shape on, so it can make the shape :)

Shaped lights or fairylights.
This is using a DIY hooded cover of the lens and a cut out shape. On unfocused lights, and the piece of cut out shape, take the picture. It seriously works amazingly well.... you just have to know how to work it.
